As a startup you tend to work exceptionally hard to help your business grow, but seemingly you’re failing… why? In a recent article 7 Things You Do Every Day That Hurt Your Company, Barry Moltz discusses the traps that many hardworking business owners fall into.
Here are 4 major traps that business owners get stuck in and tips on how to get out.
- You’re busy, but not productive
Phone calls, emails, and meetings are elements of completing important tasks. However, when these interferences control your day, you become busy, but not actually productive.
Tip: Begin your day with at least two important goals and accomplish them before doing anything else.
- No break time
If you overwork yourself or your employees, your business will suffer. The human body needs physical and mental rest at regular intervals, exhaustion will only cause poor work performance.
Tip: Schedule at least two moments during the workday to reflect and recharge.
- Your Website is outdated
Old posts give prospective customers the impression that the website isn’t being managed properly. If a business can’t keep up with their company website, what else are they falling behind in?
Tip: Make sure your most recent post isn’t more than a few weeks old. If necessary, outsource someone to keep your website well maintained.
- You don’t seek feedback
You haven’t heard any complaints from your clients lately, so everything’s okay, right? Maybe not. If a client is dissatisfied, they won’t usually say anything to your face. Instead they will leave dissatisfied and complain to their friends and on social media.
Tip: You may need to do some research to see what people are saying about your company. You may not like everything you read, but it is a great way to gain insight on ways to improve your business.
Some traps are harder to see than others. It’s good to take a step back and evaluate your business as a whole. Perhaps you need a change in workspace.
